I have had the KA-Bar Dogs Head Utility Knife for about 2 years now, and over that time, I have used it for quite a lot of different tasks, from cutting branches, to slicing chicken. It has lots of good points, and some, not so good depending on how you look at it. So lets get into the KA-Bar Dogs Head Utility Knife review!
First, we will take a look at the technical specs of the KA-Bar Dogs Head.

My first impressions of this knife where great, it came very well presented, in a sleek presentation box and the knife in a brown leather sheath with the Dogs Head logo stamped into it. The knife is heavy, and feels very durable and strong, the blade was sharp out of the box, though, not quite as sharp as it could have been, but, for the price of this knife, you can’t expect them to put too much time into sharpening.
It feels well balanced, and the matt black blade and brown leather handle make it look very classy indeed. The knife handle features what I would call a hammer, well, you could use it as a hammer if you wanted, the base of the handle has a pear shaped metal head, which is quite hard, even though I have not tested it as a hammer yet, I am sure it would be up to the task! It also has a hole through the head which I guess is for a lanyard. This knife can be used for anything, from chopping sticks/small logs, to cutting a fish open to eat. The weight of the knife gives it that high quality, expensive feel, and the blade stays sharp for quite some time when using the knife.
The sheath is made from leather, with heavy stitching around the edges, and small brass coloured rivets to hold it together. It’s sturdy, and doesn’t feel like it will rip easily, which, I suppose is good, if a knife is being held in it. It features a wide belt loop, so you can attach it to your belt, or even backpack for easy carrying, and the knife is secured in the sheath with a leather loop that buttons around the handle. It also features a small hole at the bottom, which again, I guess is for a lanyard.
Another important thing for me, is that the sheath holds the knife, quietly, there is no rattling like some sheaths, and it also holds the knife securely enough that you can go with out the single retention strap every time. Overall, the sheath is pretty basic, it’s not made of the highest quality materials, but, it does what it is supposed to, and thats hold the knife.
Overall, I think the KA-Bar Dogs Head Utility Knife is a great knife for bushcraft, hunting, or any general cutting task really. I like it. A lot. It feels like a high quality product. If you are looking for a hunting knife, or survival knife, this may be the one!
